Who Am I?
I am an amateur web developer and designer, living in Perth, Australia.
I have been designing and developing websites for near-enough 7 years as a hobby,
making websites for myself in HTML, later XHTML and CSS.
I strive for neatness and professionalism in both my code and
my design and am always researching
new methods and techniques to better present my work.
I am always looking at the latest innovations in the field of web development
and I apply them to my projects as much as I can, where it is
appropriate. See examples of my work for yourself in the portfolio.
What I Can Do
My primary focus is on development in (X)HTML and CSS and I have intimate knowledge of the
syntax and implementation of either in order to create a functional, presentable and effective site.
Recently I’ve been researching HTML5 and CSS3 and the powerful new features they provide.
I’ve been experimenting with the features they provide for detailing, structuring and styling and wish to
begin applying these to my future web developments.
While I may use the latest features avaliable to me in my work as much as possible,
I try to retain compatability to older browsers as much as possible, by using
compatability scripts or a graceful fall back that wont ruin the look and feel of the
site.
Since smart phones, and more recently tablet computers, have become more popular
and widespread than ever before, I am taking this into account and
adapting my designs to be viewable on the various screen sizes that are used. By
avoiding Flash content as much as possible, and replacing it with newer HTML5 features,
your site can be visible to anyone on virtually any device or browser.
I can design and develop your site offline to get it just the way you
want it, temporarily hosting it on my own webserver.
However, if you wish to have it published you must have
obtained both a domain name and a webhost that offers sql databases and runs
PHP.
Skills
Design
For at least as long as I have been developing for the web, I have been familiarising myself with Adobe Photoshop.
I’ve built my skills on the creation of web-graphics, for graphic design and for anything else from photo-manipulation to materials
for 3D meshes, all of which have allowed me to become greatly familiar with the application and can all be used to create website
templates or proofs.
Although I have only recently begun experimenting with Adobe Illustrator,
I have started to love it for its ability to create simple, clean graphics both for the web and for print.
I’m becoming increasingly familiar with the working environment and can work with the pen and
shape tools efficiently, mostly thanks to prior experience in Photoshop.
Development
I have been using Adobe Dreamweaver, albeit intermittently, since the 2004 version release by Macromedia and have some
familiarity with its particular features. Though I have usually resorted to a syntax-highlighting text editor, usually Notepad++
or Scintilla SCiTE, I know my way around Dreamweaver fairly well.
XHTML &
HTML5
I am familiar with the conventions and guidelines of XHTML 1.1 and I always try to abide
by them as much as I can while developing.
Aside from this, I’m researching the structure and semantics of HTML5 for creating
an efficient outline, as well as to take advantage of the new features it offers.
Cascading
Style Sheets
I’ve been using CSS for nearly as long as I have been using HTML and have a strong
familiarity with its syntax and implementation in a site. I use style sheets for as much of
the appearence of my sites as possible.
Recently I’ve begun using CSS3’s elements, particularly the new display and typography
properties, to
create aesthetically pleasing sites with low overhead while at the same time
allowing a graceful fallback
of features to provide support for legacy and feature-lacking browsers to
as much of an extent that is
reasonable.
